The NCPTA BOD met in conjunction with the Student Conclave at Duke University on March 24. This allowed the Board members to interact with the students before the conclave started, at lunch, and at the Oxford Debates. President Covington had the board members and staff introduce themselves to the students.
The NCPTA BOD continued to refine the strategic plan which had been developed at the Leadership Conference in January. The final plan has been provided to the BOD and they are to vote on the plan by the end of the week. Once the plan is adopted, it will be shared with the membership and placed on the website.
The search to hire a new Executive Director after Nancy Garland retires in August continues with the slate of 27 candidates being narrowed to 3. In-person interviews will be held with the candidates in April and May.
The BOD also adopted the new schedule for elections after the by-law change that was adopted at the 2017 October Business meeting. Elections will no longer be held before and during the fall conference. Instead, nominations will be able to be made at the business meeting at the conference, with elections being held after the conference. Both electronic and paper ballots will be used. Newly elected officers will take office on January 1, 2019, instead of taking office immediately after the business meeting.This will allow for a smooth transition of elected officers.
The NCPTA Leadership held a Strategic Planning Retreat and board meetings on the beautiful campus of Elon University on January 5 and 6, 2018. Facilitated by APTA Board Liaison, Dr. Sue Whitney, PT, PhD, NCS, ATC, FAPTA, leadership spent the Retreat discussing the future of NCPTA and the direction the association needs to go to best serve membership and patients.
In the fall of 2017 the NCPTA sent a survey to all PTs and PTAs in North Carolina. Responses were received from over 2,000 PTs, PTAs, and students. The data collected formed the basis for formulating a new strategic plan.
In the coming months, you’ll see more information about the NCPTA’s new strategic plan. The five areas identified by leadership for strategic goals were: Education, Communication, Collaboration, Legislative and Payment Advocacy, and Membership Engagement.These five areas mirror the feedback received from the survey.
A task force has been appointed by the BOD to collate the information generated from the retreat into a comprehensive document that will be distributed to all members following March 24th board meeting.
President Kyle Covington said, “The NCPTA is setting big goals that will be challenging to achieve but we are confident that if we work towards these goals we can create the best possible member run organization possible. However, reaching these goals will not be possible without the efforts, involvement, and engagement of members.”
