WebinarThe Oncology Patient: Increasing Awareness of Falls Prevention and Advocacy Opportunities

Presented by: Brett MacLennan, DPT, OCS from Wingate University via Zoom

Description: While the physical therapy profession’s role and knowledge in managing oncology patients has grown often times this knowledge base is limited to therapists who specialize in treating the oncology population; with the general practitioner not being confident in the common rehabilitation needs of this population. This educational session will provide information on common rehabilitation concerns with a specific focus on balance and fall prevention in the oncology patient, while also discussing advocacy opportunities within the profession for oncology patients.

Objectives: Upon completion of the PT or PTA will:

  1. Discuss the overall common rehabilitation concerns in cancer patients and the role of physical therapists.
  2. Describe evidence based evaluation and assessment of balance in cancer patients and survivors.
  3.  Explain evidence based interventions to improve balance and reduce fall risk in cancer patients and survivors.
  4. Discuss advocacy opportunities related to cancer patients and survivors.
