The NCPTA Student Special Interest Group (SSIG) held it first ever Student Conclave at Duke University on March 24. Approximately 300 student PTs and PTAs from around the state attended the Conclave. Bryn Hager, SPT, from Wingate University and Chair of the SSIG, said, “We as a SSIG were thrilled with the overwhelming turnout at what we hope will continue to be a successful event for NCPTA. We were overjoyed to find many students wanting to get better connected with the SSIG, NCPTA, and APTA! We thank everyone who helped make the conclave a success.” The Student Conclave met in conjunction with the NCPTA Board meeting. Kyle Covington, PT, DPT, PhD, NCPTA President, welcomed the attendees to the Conclave. Covington exclaimed the energy and excitement of our students was contagious. It was amazing to see the passion of our profession’s next generation of leaders beginning to take hold at the conclave."
Social media played a big part in the conference as it started with everyone signing on to twitter. The twitter feed was followed by Ignite speakers with rapid fire information. The Keynote Speaker, William Deter, PT, DPT, GCS discussed what it means to be a 21st century PT. The conclave ended with an Oxford Debate on having specialties vs. not having specialties.
